A New Manual In AsciiDoc
Part 5
Meanwhile, the new year is already a few days old and the last holidaymakers are now also busy working again.
Of course, I took it down a notch over the holidays and worked mainly on administrative things for the new year. I also did some work on the website for the upcoming Merlin Project 8.1 release.
From this, the attentive reader can immediately see that I haven't written quite a lot on the new manual ... actually nothing at all 🤷♂️.
Reactions to previous posts
Nevertheless, I would like to respond to some mails that reached me after the fourth part. Many people are very interested in the variables and text substitutions. So this time I would like to give an important tip.

Part 4
This week it finally worked again. My plan with the blocked time phases in the calendar went off. I was able to write almost continuously on Wednesday.
In the process, I noticed a few little things in AsciiDoc that I want to share with you.

Part 3
I had already feared it at the beginning; with all the motivation to write the book quickly - the day-to-day business somehow always gets in the way.
In the last week I was on the road a lot. On behalf of Merlin Project, of course. And this week one surprise followed the next.
The result is unsatisfying, but clear: I couldn't write 20 sentences.
So I can save the current Kanban board here too; because it still looks exactly the same.
Next week it will go on... hopefully.
A New Manual In AsciiDoc
Part 2
This is the second part of my project report for the new Merlin Project manual. I will try to give a more or less brief update on the project every Friday.
The Project
Before we jump into AsciiDoc, here's a quick look at my project.
- The Git repository has been set up
- The lines are defined and some of them are listed here as well.
- The prerequisites are known as far as they go.
- A first outline has been created and will now be refined gradually.
- As pictures I will first use only quick screenshots, and then recreate them as needed.
- A weekday for writing is set.
The last point in particular was a real challenge for me, because somehow I have to find the time to write. If I just take every available minute, I'll probably never finish. I need a set block of time, and that's exactly what I've created. As of now, Wednesday is my manual writing day. Let's see how long that works ...

Part 1
We are constantly optimizing Merlin Project for easier use. We already started some time ago with the start dialog and cleaning up the inspector.
With version 8, the dynamic help has now been introduced: Just click on the ? symbol and you will get an explanatory help text for every object you point to with the mouse (or with your finger on the iPad). You can even create your own help texts for your own fields.
Unfortunately our manual is a bit behind. But don't worry, there is rich and up-to-date documentation, like:
- A tutorial,
- extensive questions and answers,
- many support articles in this blog
- and of course the dynamic help described at the beginning.
A complete manual does not exist at the moment. And that's exactly what I want to change now.
