macOS hints: Screenshots

macOS

For umpteen years, Apple has incorporated the screen capture option into its operating systems. This means that almost everything you see on the screen can be saved as an image.

With the following keyboard shortcuts you can create screenshots:

  • To create the entire screen content, press the "Command" + "Shift" + "3" keys (cmd + shift + 3) on the keyboard simultaneously.

  • To take a screenshot of a window, press the "Command" + "Shift" + "4" keys simultaneously. Press the "space bar" on the keyboard. The mouse pointer turns into a camera icon. Move this icon over a window. To shoot, click on the highlighted window.

  • To take a screenshot of a section, press the "Command" + "Shift" + "4" keys simultaneously. The mouse pointer turns into a crosshair symbol. Drag the section from top left to bottom left while holding down the mouse button at the same time. When you release the mouse button, the section becomes a screenshot.

More about screenshots can be found directly on the Apple Website.

Hint

The screenshots are automatically placed on the desktop. The exact date and time are also entered in the file name.
