What Does “Sandboxing” Mean?
“App Sandboxing” is a security concept developed by Apple for macOS and iOS. It protects user data and operating system resources from malicious attacks by restricting apps' access to files, network connections and hardware functions.
Merlin Project is also a sandbox application. This means that the app cannot access any files or folders without your explicit permission. To grant access to files, you basically have the following options:
- Double-click the file in the Finder.
- Drag the file onto the Merlin Project application icon.
- Open the file using the File > Open... command within the application.
However, in certain situations, Merlin Project needs access to files and folders that you have not opened directly. For example, if the project folders are stored in Dropbox or iCloud Drive, or to create temporary files when viewing a file with unsaved changes, or when entering file paths directly within the application.
If you want to grant Merlin Project permanent access to certain directories, follow these steps:
- Open Merlin Project > Settings….
- Switch to tab Access to Folders.
- Drag the desired directories into the list of folders that Merlin Project is allowed to access regularly.
