5 Questions about Project Management
with Eberhard Huber
Before we leave the office for the weekend, we stop for a quick coffee talk with our project management colleagues to chat about their best practices. Well, not literally, but that's how we designed our interview series "5 questions about project management". To be fast, intense and refreshing like a good cup of coffee.
Today, we’ll talk with Eberhard Huber. He is very active in different fields of project management. He works as a project manager for more than 25 years, trains corporations and coaches executives. He also shares his knowledge on his personal blog Pentaeder and founded PM Camp.
1. What is your favorite project management method?
I integrate as many agile elements as possible into a project.
2. Do you use project management software for bigger projects? If so, which one?
For my operational work, I use tools like Jira if possible. In the preparation and planning stages of a project, I use traditional project scheduling tools, i.e. Excel because it’s what customers often want.
On a personal note: I still don’t use Merlin Project although I’d love to. The main obstacle: Lots of my clients are federal agencies and macOS is not very popular among them.
3. What is your favorite routine in a project?
Having conversations on a regular basis, no matter if you call them daily or something else. In those conversations project work becomes alive.
4. What in your opinion is the most underestimated factor for project success?
Successful collaboration and constructive teamwork. Everybody is talking about teams but very few people really get what it means to work together.
5. What is your biggest time waster?
Creating reports, especially turning existing reports into power point presentations.
Thanks for your time and all the best for your next project.
