Time Management
Schedule management
Project time management (also schedule management) covers everything the project manager does to build and keep the schedule: define activities, sequence them, estimate their durations, develop the schedule and control it as the project runs.
The PMBOK Guide of the Project Management Institute has called this knowledge area "Project Schedule Management" since its 6th edition (2017), formerly "Project Time Management". It consists of six processes: Plan Schedule Management, Define Activities, Sequence Activities, Estimate Activity Durations, Develop Schedule and Control Schedule.
Time forms the triple constraint together with cost and scope. Key terms in time management are dependencies, duration, critical path and float.
In Merlin Project, the schedule is calculated from durations, dependencies and the working calendar. Change a duration or a public holiday, and Merlin Project recalculates all affected dates.
How-to: The guide Project Time Management: Build a Schedule in 6 Steps shows how to create a project schedule step by step.
