What Is The Activity Alignment?

The alignment option schedules activities according to their parent group. Per default new activities respect the project’s direction, therefor inherit its alignment. That means, forward planned projects use activities in ASAP alignment, and backward scheduled projects in ALAP.

To change the given alignment of existing activities, select the activity row, use the plan inspector and select the desired option from the alignment list.

Activity Alignment

ASAP (as soon as possible) schedules activities to start as early as possible. They will still be affected by the working times, other predecessor dependencies and date constrains entered on the item or its parent group.

ALAP (as late as possible) schedules activities to start as late as possible. They will still be affected by the working times, other successor dependencies and date constrains entered on the item or its parent group.

Long is a mixture of ASAP and ALAP and schedules the activity at the maximum length of the parent structure (the parent group or the entire project).

You can choose to show the value of the column Given Alignment in the outline and edit it there as well.
