Project Sponsor

The project sponsor is the client and most senior advocate of a project. They provide the resources, release the budget and bear the financial responsibility for the success of the undertaking.

Unlike the project manager, who steers the project operationally, the sponsor acts on a strategic level. They make fundamental decisions, clear obstacles out of the way and represent the project to the organization. As the most important stakeholder, their active support is often decisive for project success.
