5 Questions about Project Management
with Susann Teige

Coffee Talk

Susann Teige, Bosch

Before we leave the office for the weekend, we stop for a quick coffee talk with our project management colleagues to chat about their best practices. Well, not literally, but that's how we designed our interview series "5 questions about project management". To be fast, intense and refreshing like a good cup of coffee.

Today, we’ll talk with Susann Teige. She is a project manager at Bosch and talks with us about success factors, time wasters and favorite project routines.

1. What is your favorite project management method?

Generally speaking, we follow the Goal Directed Project Management Method.

During the calculation phase, we define the scope of the project together with our customer. Afterwards, we discuss the scope with the planning team. They create a concept, estimate time and budget. As soon as we get confirmation on the project, we’ll present all information and the project schedule in a kick-off meeting.

We often face some unpredictabilities and delays when resources are involved in several projects at the same time and it’s not uncommon that we have to make changes to our routines. That demands lots of experience and coordination.

2. Do you use project management software for bigger projects? If so, which one?

We have our own database which all departments use. This is where we enter meetings and have a structure for project schedules, documents, protocols, orders, pictures etc. Currently, we are working on an automatic infrastructure based on Jira.

3. What is your favorite routine in a project?

The most important part is the kick-off when all stakeholders sit around a table and work on creating an overall vision for the project. But lots of aspects already have been discussed in the definition phase.

4. What is the most underestimated factor for project success?

Communication and documentation!

5. What is your biggest time waster?

Rework because of belated customer specifications. That’s why detailed agreements during the planning phase are extremely important to me.

Thanks for your time and all the best for your next project.
