Localizations

Merlin is delivered in 3 localizations: English, German and French and is compatible with the Mac OS X system preferences.
This means, your Finder runs in English? Merlin runs in English. Your Finder runs in French? Merlin will also run in French. Your Finder runs in Dutch and German is listed underneath Dutch, but before English? Merlin will run in German.

Change your Finder's language

To change the preferred system language, for example to French…

  1. Call the ‘System Preferences’ and the ‘Language & Text’ pane.
    System preferences
  2. Switch to the ‘Language’ tab.
  3. Select the language you want to have as your standard language, drag&drop it before the top most entry.
    System preferences-Language&Text-Language
  4. Re-start Merlin, you will see it run in French.

Note: Your Finder is not yet French. It will be French next time you restart Finder or the Mac.

Start Merlin in another language

To start Merlin in English when having a French system for example…

on Mac OS X 10.5.x or older you disable the German and French localizations of the Merlin application in its Finder information dialog.

on Mac OX 10.6.x or newer you define the default application language (en, de or fr) using the Terminal.app

defaults write net.projectwizards.Merlin2 AppleLanguages -array 'en'

Should you like to define another alternative language (German for example) then the one defined by the Mac OS X preferences, this is what to write when setting the default language to French:

defaults write net.projectwizards.Merlin2 AppleLanguages -array 'fr' 'de'

To remove language settings:

defaults delete net.projectwizards.Merlin2 AppleLanguages
