Merlin iPhone – how does it work?

Vicky Stamatopoulou on 6. July 2010

Merlin iPhone is such a great option for mobile project managers. Share your projects with Merlin for Mac OS X and the optional iPhone sharing service or use a Merlin Server in which iPhone share is build-in. As long as you have a connection to the mobile data net or WLAN hotspot, with Merlin iPhone you can access your project from anywhere.

It all sounds great to you but how does it work? Easy and straight forwards (as always in Merlin).

Check screenshots of the app in the product page, watch accompanied screencasts illustrating the functionality, read the  Merlin iPhone QuickStart Guide, or test it for your own.

app storeWherefrom to download it? Merlin iPhone app is available in iTunes Store as free download.

Not always online? That’s fine with Merlin iPhone. You can view your project offline, and will need an online connection only when making changes and populating the new state of your project.

What about iPad or the new iOS 4? Merlin iPhone runs on iPhone 4 and on iPhone devices with iOS 4 just as well.  Our developers are already working on an adjusted version to look better on the iPad or the new iPhone 4, so stay tuned.

How do I setup my router? Just proceed as explained in our blog post ‘using Merlin’s web module‘. Web and iPhone sharing are both using the same port and our configuration suggestions apply for iPhone sharing too.

My Project Potion interview with AVTechnology.com Editor Kevin Hogan on emerging telepresence technology went live this week.  For those of you (like me) who are not hip to the new AV lingo, “emerging telepresence technology” can be interpreted as new video conferencing stuff. It was a rare thing for me to be able to interview Kevin, not just because he had a lot of insightful information and ideas about what changes we should expect in the way of AV tech impacting our ability to communicate with teams in other countries, but also because Kevin is one of my oldest and closest friends. There were a few signal dropouts in the recording, but whaddaya gonna do – it ‘s Skype. You can find the video here.

This week I also had the opportunity to interview Frank Illenberger, Lead Developer for ProjectWizards. We discussed WWDC, the iPad, the iPhone4 and how those devices may impact the project management workscape. (more…)

Addicted to phone apps

Vicky Stamatopoulou on 18. June 2010

buying appsIn today’s Dilbert, a woman goes to the shrink. She consults here doctor, because she got addicted to buying phone apps she doesn’t need. Does this sound familiar to you? I bet it does. How many apps have you bought already, used only once or twice, and deleted afterwards from your iPhone? I am sure they were quite a few. At least I know how often this happens to me. I know, some iPhone app vendors offer their apps in two versions: free and full featured paid app. In theory one can test the free app and if the iPhone user likes it or need more features, he or she may buy the paid version. Yes, this is theory. But how realistic is it, that you will find first the free version of an app and not the paid one? Have you checked the statistics of your iTunes account lately? You would be surprised to see how much money was spent on unneeded buys.

So isn’t great, that you can download Merlin iPhone app for free and test before purchasing a license for Merlin iPhone sharing? If you like it, if it works fine for you, you can buy the additional license for Merlin from our store. If not, just remove the Merlin iPhone app from your iPhone and you are done. That’s fair, isn’t?

BTW if you are interested in finding out how Dilbert’s comic strip goes, (more…)

iPhone 4, Simply adorable

Vicky Stamatopoulou on 8. June 2010

specs_display_20100607Steve Jobs, Apple CEO, really knows his profession. He really knows how to present* a piece of software or hardware and make you feel like you are watching the most successful blockbuster. He has an exact perception of how people love being part of something special. He understands how to create hardware which works but also manage to become cult. The amount of Apple users increase radically over the years. iPod was one of the products braking the clean cut between Mac and Windows Users. With the release of the iPod, almost everybody got to be an Apple user. Couple years ago you were nothing if you would jog without an iPod nano**.

Yesterday’s keynote on the WWDC 2010 didn’t came as a surprise, but still, (more…)

Demo version of Merlin, Merlin Server or additional sharing features

Vicky Stamatopoulou on 26. March 2010

Do you want to try Merlin for project management on Mac OS X before purchasing? No problem, you can download it and test for free. It is fully functional without a license running as a demo. You may then import MS Projects, setup new projects out of its build-in templates, enter new resources and use contacts from your Address Book, do assignments, linkages between activities, see how budget balances with work costs, attach documents onto activities, information for meetings, risks, issues, do reports and much much more.

The only limitation a demo version of Merlin has, is that if you would like to save, export or print your test project it may contain up to 40 activities. Otherwise a dialog will come up informing you so:

Buy Merlin License

If your test had run successfully, with a few clicks you can buy your license over our online shop. Drag&drop your licence file which you will receive per email onto your Merlin application icon and your are back to business. No new downloads. No additional network traffic.
